Purpose:
- Used for rapid and easy determination of the percentage of flat particles, elongated particles, or flat and elongated particles in coarse aggregates.
Significance & Use:
- Individual aggregate particles of specific sieve sizes are measured to determine the ratios of width to thickness, length to width, or length to thickness.
Construction Details:
- Manufactured from corrosion-resistant plated steel.
- Consists of a base plate with vertical fixed posts, rubber feet and a swinging arm mounted between the posts.
- The openings between the arms and posts maintain a constant ratio.
- The axis position can be adjusted to provide the desired opening ratios of 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 and 1:5.
- Four-station model provides openings for all four ratios simultaneously without repositioning the pivot screw.
- Moveable posts in the four-station model are replaceable.
- Pivoting arm is 13 inches (330 mm) long as per ASTM D4791.
- Base plate size is 6 x 16 inches (152 x 406 mm).
